This conference setting allows students to interact more and create connections that may be useful in one’s future career.
We all created LinkedIn accounts, and this made me more aware of how everything you put online portrays you a certain way. LinkedIn can be very beneficial, however, it is important that you watch what you post online on social networks like Facebook, and Twitter. You may be displaying a negative persona online that can be very counterproductive to job opportunities. Anything you post online can be reviewed.
Furthermore, we learned how to properly make a resume. Many resumes are initially read by computer programs that pick out certain words. Only the resume’s that contain these specific words are passed on and reviewed. It is important that the resume is presented in the correct format because it often takes a proctor less than 5 seconds to decide on a resume. Lastly, we worked on developing an elevator speech. It is important to be able to represent yourself properly when an opportunity arises. Having an elevator speech allows you to correctly introduce yourself to a potential business connection, and further promote your personal brand.
